If you are starting a business or a startup. You should not start on finding the great idea or niche. I believe, you should start work on yourself first. One of my realization this year is the importance of mindset. Before, hearing about mastering mindset does not sound appealing to me. I thought it was just about thinking positive or facing your fears and worries. But it’s really more than that.

Mindset is composed of beliefs about yourself, your abilities and thoughts about the world.

What is Mindset?

I call this year my self development year. I learned a lot this year, because I faced things that for me that is life changing. It’s like a wake up call for me.

You know we are molded with the people around us and the environment that we grew in. Of course, growing up sometimes we really cannot choose the people who surrounds us. But what differs us is the way we react and act to the circumstances.

There come a time where in I started doubting myself. I feel like everything I’m doing is not succeeding and not working well. Then I realize there’s something wrong with failures. So I started to study again the lives of successful people. I study their habits, attitude, work ethics and many more.

The good thing here is, not only it helps me study their life but it also provided me motivation and inspiration.

If I will be starting from scratch again, I will work on my mindset first.

That’s why, if you observe my blog. I started posting self development first, because I believe this will help you a lot on the long run.

Changing your mindset comes with a process and time. Of course, if we want to reset or change our former mindset, we need to build some habits to help us achieve the mindset that we want. Repetition is the mother of learning, so we need to practice and do it everyday.

Here are some things that I did that help me change my mindset.

 1. Find People Who Inspires You.

You need to choose people you want to follow. Model what they do and know their backstory. Back story is very important, because this is the part where most people ignore. They only see the success not the story behind it. What inspires us is how their story started and ended.

You need to adapt to their mindset and way of thinking. It will helps us see the things we lack and things we need to change. Act like what successful people do.

That’s why it’s a good thing to have a mentor by your side. Actually this is one of key to my online business. I have mentor who helped me and guide me step by step until I can do it myself.

 2. Surround Yourself With The Right People

Before I thought this doesn’t really matter, but I realize in my down moments you need people who believes in you. People who cheer you up. People who understand your pain. Let’s face it, sometimes it’s really hard to motivate ourselves or take action especially when you are facing difficulties in life. Sometimes you just want people to feel your pain, but after that you decided to start to move forward again.

 3. Know Your Belief System

What are your beliefs in life?. Do they support you or limits you. You need to understand that our beliefs are shaped by the people, environment and experiences. These factors are sometimes inevitable, but what we can do is to decide whether we will let ourselves be influence by it. To change this limiting beliefs or negative beliefs, we need to make positive statement or declaration that will serve as affirmation. Do this for the next 21 to 30 days. You will not immediately see the changes, but you will realize there are changes in your words, thinking and actions.

4. Focus On Your Goals and Vision

Goals and Vision will help you focus on your main thing in life. Let’s accept it, there will be lots of disappointments, discouragements, and failures heading in our way. But focus on your goals and vision. Just remember this is normal and you can overcome it. Great people are called great because of what they have overcome and still be triumphant.

5. Develop Your Growth Mindset

There are 2 types of mindsets.

Fixed Mindset are people who believe they cannot do something that is beyond their capabilities.

Growth Mindset are people who believe anyone can be good at something, because of their efforts and actions.
